The buzz around The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team is likely building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable with a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
